Gasification is a waste-to-energy method that reduces landfill use by converting waste into electricity. It is widely used in industries to process materials such as wood waste, oil palm fronds, empty fruit bunches, municipal solid waste, agricultural and industrial waste, sewage sludge, and crop residues.
A gasifier converts carbon-based waste into syngas, which fuels gas engines. Compared to incineration, gasification produces fewer air pollutants but requires a higher initial investment. However, it offers a faster return on investment by utilizing waste as its primary feedstock.
